The Woman

Robbie Lindsey was born on October 21, 1912, in Mississippi. Robbie moved to La Crosse when she married Orby Moss, the grandson of Zacharias Louis Moss, one of the first Black American settlers in La Crosse. In an oral history archived at Murphy Library Special Collections, University of Wisconsin La Crosse, Robbie talked about being refused service at places of business and segregation signs during WWII. She remembered Black American soldiers being refused service in downtown La Crosse.

Robbie had three sons with Orby Z. Moss. She died on July 20, 2004, in La Crosse, at the age of 91, and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery.
