The four Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Matthew as an angel, Mark as a winged lion, Luke as a winged ox, and John as an eagle.

Communion Rail Inserts

Date: Late 19th Century to Early 20th Century

Material: Wood

These communion rail inserts are from the original St. Joseph Cathedral. Both carvings depict Old Testament scenes. The first carving is of High Priest Melchizedek offering bread, wine, and a blessing to Abraham. The second carving depicts manna from heaven.

Cross Carving

Date: 1950s

Material: Wood

Carved by Eduard Dietmeier as a gift for Kathleen Collins (later Donskey) when she left the E. Hackner Co. to attend school. Dietmeier was a master carver who immigrated from Bavaria in 1952 and worked for the E. Hackner Co. until its closure.

Bas-Relief Plaque

Date: Mid-20th Century

Material: Wood

The reverse is signed in pen by Egid Hackner with a handwritten note: “Congratulations to Mongr Cech and his Congr.”

Monsignor Ferdinand Cech was appointed pastor of St. Wenceslaus Parish in La Crosse starting in 1923 until his retirement in 1958.
